I’m thrilled about the successful sale of the Salem Tavern, a historic gem nestled in the heart of Winston-Salem. This property, rich in history and charm, has long been a cornerstone of our community, and I couldn’t be more excited about its next chapter. With the new restaurant set to open soon, I have high hopes it will offer something truly special. And, like many locals, I’m quietly hoping that Moravian chicken pie makes its way onto the menu—it would be a delicious nod to the deep-rooted traditions of the area. Plus, who wouldn’t love a vibrant outdoor space to enjoy all the flavors and ambiance?

The journey to this sale has been one filled with meaningful collaborations. I’ve had the privilege of working with Terry Taylor and Erik Skarzynski from Old Salem for the past few years. Their dedication to preserving the legacy of this community has made every interaction with them a rewarding experience. We are fortunate to have a living museum like Old Salem, where history is kept alive, serving as a testament to our city's heritage. It's been a real honor to contribute, even in a small way, to maintaining this connection through real estate.

I also want to express my gratitude to Bob Sweeney, the buyer of Salem Tavern. Bob’s deep knowledge of commercial real estate, historic properties, and the restaurant business made him the perfect match for this project. Navigating the complexities of selling a historic building is no easy feat, but his understanding of the unique challenges helped make this transaction seamless. It truly took a combination of expertise in these three areas—real estate, historic preservation, and the restaurant industry—to bring this deal to fruition.

As we look forward to the future of Salem Tavern, I’m eager to see what this next chapter holds. I believe it will quickly become a beloved destination for both locals and visitors alike. And who knows? Maybe the next time you visit, you’ll be enjoying a warm slice of Moravian chicken pie in a charming outdoor space.

I hope to see you at Salem Tavern soon!

This is really great news for all in the area of Winston Salem, ie Mount Airy, North Carolina. We love the rich history of Old Salem. It is perfect for school trips to study the history of the time period of the early settlement of North Carolina. We look forward to the re-opening of the Salem Tavern with great anticipation.
